Animation greats passing

2007 has seen a flurry of activity. But sadly it has seen the passing of two greats from the animation industry. Iwao Takamoto passed away on January 8th from a massive heart attack. I met Iwao on a visit he made to Sydney some time ago now. Lovely gentleman and truly a great talent that gave us many of the classic elements in memories of nearly every animator today.

Another relatively unknown great from the industry is Harvey Cohen, composer. Yet another heart attack victim, passing away on January 14th.

Cohen received Emmy Awards for his musical direction and composition work in two TV animated shows: The Adventures of Batman and Robin: A Bullet For Bullock, and Disney's Aladdin. Among the films and televisions shows for which Cohen created music were Sex and The City, South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut, The Wonder Years, Dallas, and Down With Love. Cohen also arranged music for recording artists such as Kenny G and The Irish Tenors.
