It's true, my iBook received a baptising comprised of full cream milk. Centre of keyboard ran the whole glass. Don't ever trust another with your precious. It may look like a bullet proof toilet seat but damn it, it's family. It has survived trips throughout W.A. (Denmark, you guys rock!) and many interstate travels. It can cop quite a beating and it has. However it isn't liquid proof.
In crisis mode when discovering the emergency the years of training proved useless. Milk just gets in. Period. However as I have learned you should take heed and learn the simple rules of emergency with Laptops and practise them with its users.
1. At time of spill turn laptop upside down and immediately shake remaining liquid from casing. If possible remove keyboard and wipe excess away. Keyboard is destroyed anyway no matter what as they are very sensitive to even a light spray of liquid (short of spit). Turn off computer.
2. If possible stick laptop in oven and heat. this will remove excess mositure. If possible, spray CRC Lectra Clean in to areas affected. This is available at most electronic stores and you should keep it in your first aid kit in case. It is an evaporating liquid used to clean electronic devices and in partciular circuit boards.
3. Leave laptop on even surface open and upside down, creating an inverted V shape with the computer. Leave for 2 days if you can't get to a Computer Store.
4. After adequate time attempt to turn on Laptop using main power supply as opposed to battery. It should boot, if it doesn't you should look at buying a new one.
I revived my iBook, and its content of 2 years of cartoons. I'm now renaming the Drive 'Cadbury'. It's previous name was Nemo and it proved entertaining when trying to network the desktop to the laptop and the server response was "Finding Nemo ....... Can't Find Nemo."
Must be a location joke. Goodness is that the time already ?
