My mum would only ever let me read Tintin. They were the only comics I was allowed to read. The upside of this is that I have a complete collection of mint condition Tintin comics, worth at least a few hundred bucks. The downside? I never got into Asterix.
I dunno whether she thought comics were generally the fastest way to the gutter rather than the stars, though.

I agree, but I got in to Asterisk when I was young. I love that style of european cartoon. The Belgium embassy in Sydney had an exhibition of the cartoons of some of their top guys like Peyo (Smurfs) etc.
